팬데믹 선언 이후 우리 사회는 타인과의 직접 만남을 지양하고 온라인을 통한 간접 만남을 권장하게 되었습니다. 사람들이 소통하고 교감하기 위한 접점으로서의 공간의 의미를 다시금 생각해보게 되었죠. 이와 더불어 정보를 습득하기 위한 주된 방식은 수동적 독해를 요구하는 텍스트에서 직관적이고 자동적인 영상 매체로 급격하게 전환되고 있습니다. 시시각각 변화하는 시대의 흐름은 때로 자신의 속도로 걸어갈 따름인 우리를 저만큼 앞질러 달려가는 것처럼 보이기도 합니다. 하지만 우리에게 그 속도에 반드시 보조를 맞춰야 할 의무는 없습니다. 멈추지 않고 가는 삶을 견디기 위해서는 강물에 발을 담그고 서 있듯 다만 그 흐름을 느끼며 쉬어가는 일도 필요하지요. 활자와 활자 사이, 자간과 행간의 공간을 읽어낼 줄 알아야 하는 시는 우리에게 공간의 의미를 재고케 하고 여백과 느림의 소중함을 상기시켜줄 것입니다.
